One of the issues brought up at the first couple Transport Hartford meetings is the awful condition of sidewalks and bus stops in the winter months when it snows. While none of us really want to think about this now in the heart of a warm spring, a recent google search for Albany Ave in Hartford turned up this youtube post from Lashauna Tate of a harrowing walk down Albany in February of 2013.
transport news from around the hartford interwebs- Sigourney & flower st, keney park trails5/8/2014 To kick things off here's a roundup of the last two weeks' transportation news in (and related to) Hartford. Did we miss something? Link to it in the comments!
Hartford is a dynamic place when it comes to transportation issues, and a lot is happening. We'll do our best to keep a weekly roundup going here at the Transport Hartford blog. Got a tip on a story or issue that should make it into the round-up? Email it to Justin at eichenlaub at gmail.com May 1-8th, 2014 On the beat bike blog Brendan Mahoney describes a good meeting with the Friends of Keney Park which included discussion of plans for a new mountain bike trail/trails in the large North End park, and reflects on a wonderfully calm spring evening spent biking around the city. At Real Hartford Kerri Provost gives a full run-down of the presentations and discussion of new plans for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure on Sigourney St and Capitol Ave at a meeting in Hartford on May 7. In the Hartford Courant, Don Stacom has a story describing the surprising, last-minute addition of a provision for keeping Flower St, a provision passed in the last hours of the state Senate and House's session. Also on the beat bike blog, Chris Brown concludes a three-part series on his nasty encounter with an out-of-control motorist on Summit Street at Trinity College. Jonas Maciunas, former Complete Streets coordinator for the city of Hartford, has an OP-ED in the Hartford Courant that weighs in on the importance of good design for Hartford's downtown rail and bus stops and stations. And The Atlantic Cities has a story on the impressive mode share for bicycles in small cities with populations close to that of Hartford's. |
